With April 15 (Tax Day!) coming up, now's a good time to encourage others to join this group as well as get the word out on how the Fair Tax can make April 15th just another day!  Also, Gov Huckabee talks about the benefits of the Fair Tax in his new book, A Simple Government.

@Betty Lincoln.  Thanks for inviting the people in your network to join us.  The primary objective of Team Huck between now and the time that the Governor declares his candidacy (if he does) is to increase the size of the network of people to encourage him to run and to support him, if and when he does.

You are right on target!  Thanks again.

I think Government should not do much “Social Engineering.”  The criminal justice system is an exception.  Motivating people not to harm other people is one of Government’s prime goals.  I suppose motivating people not to harm themselves as with seat belt laws is OK too.  Beyond crime and some, but not many, public safety issues, I believe Government should not “Engineer” its citizens.  Pelosi and Reid should leave that to philosophers and theologians.  The trouble is, because, when you tax something you get less of it, Tax Laws always engineer.  So, how does the Fair Tax change the Social Engineering picture?

The Fair Tax punishes big spenders and rewards savers.  It discourages extravagance and encourages providence.  The more you spend on new goods and services, the more you pay.

The Fair Tax punishes self-serving politicians, rich special interests and their Lobbyist friends.  It removes their main political tool, complex tax law.  It levels playing fields.

It encourages investment and productive activity by leaving them alone.  The free market would really be free.  It makes the best economy in the world, better.

It encourages citizens to pay more attention to Government.  Every receipt for new goods or services would remind citizens of the cost of Government to them.

It forces hundreds of thousands of talented people now employed as “burdens”, to get jobs in the productive stream of commerce.  IRS employees, tax preparers, tax accountants and lawyers are employed in a tax system that burdens society.  It puts a drag on productive activity.  These bright and talented folks would be a “human capital” boon to the Economy.

Mere discussion of The Fair Tax is a benefit to society.  It brings to light details of how our economy and political systems now operate and could operate better.  Just talking about The Fair Tax can make us better citizens.  No matter how you look at it, it’s win-win.

Have all of you followed HR25 & S296 - Maybe this will be the year.  Sure hope so.

The fair tax is a plus for retired seniors also.  No more taxing my Social Security and no mor tax on withdrawals on my IRA's...Yeah!!!

Here's some information on how the fairtax will impact retirees, etc:  http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_faq_answers#15

Tim

One thing is that everything that is purchased will have the fairtax put on it, but don't forget all the embedded costs that come out of the products(i.e. payroll taxes, corp.taxes, compliance costs, etc). Most likey the cost of items will be about the same.

The tax they think they're not paying is actually already cooked in the price right now and they now would not worry about the tax on the basics as this would be covered by the prebate.

And interest income/dividends will no longer be taxed.

I am very much in favor of the fair tax.  There are many advantages and few disadvantages.  One point is troublesome to me, however, and I would appreciate thoughts from someone about the following point.  What do you in a fair tax system for those who are retired (I am not by the way)?  They have already paid income taxes on income in their savings, but as I understand it they would, in essence, be double taxed on that income because they would have to pay a higher tax for goods and services they purchase while in retirement.

Here's a brief history of the income tax:  http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0005921.html  I didn't know that the income tax was at one time ruled unconstitutional!  Just another reason for the Fair Tax!
